In the world of audio electronics, this is generally accepted as a very good thing. Most everything else stays the same. With the PM we get five line-level inputs, two line-level outputs for looping with recording devices a moving magnet phono input, two pair A and B of speaker outputs and an amplified headphone output.
Marantz provides a clean user interface on its very attractive, curved-edge front panel. A large input selector dial resides on the left side with an equally large volume dial situated on the right. Three smaller but robust dials allow control of bass, treble and balance. There are only four buttons to be found on this piece: one for loudness control, one for Source Direct mode which bypasses the tone control circuit and one each for A and B speaker outputs.
The PM features a toroidal transformer, which likely feeds the amp with all the power it needs to do its job and then some. Our experience with amps that use toroidal transformers is that they are quite stable and dynamic. Our bet is that this amp will deliver power that rivals most amps rated at wpc or better.
The PM oozes of quality build. Everything we touched had a solid feel to it. Marantz offers a three-year warranty on this unit but we have a feeling that few, if any, will ever have to make use of it.
These are all features that the Anthem Integrated does offer, albeit at its much loftier price point. May 30, 1, 1 0. The speakers you have will work OK with the Marantz but, as Cypher suggests, some better speakers will make more of the amplifier's abilities.
As far as connecting the other components, they'll be fine as long as they have analogue audio outputs — the Marantz has no provision for digital input connections. Clare Newsome New member.

Sounds great with KEF Q, for example. We're writing an 'ultimate systems builder' for the Marantz PM - featuring all sorts of possible partners, of traditional and modern type, for our December issue, which comes out mid-November.
Anonymous Guest. I am using them with a pair of Diamond 9. I will be waiting now till I read the next issue and then decide what to buy. Can't wait. Thanks for the replies! I've just been doing some more research and I think I may have mistakenly assumed a few things about this unit.
For instance, does the Marantz support two speakers and a subwoofer my current setup or is it only two channels no subwoofer? Also, I will be using this setup for tv watching, movie watching and most of the music use will be streaming music from my iPad to the Marantz. Is the Marantz suitable for this? It seems as though it is designed for analogue input so will kbps mp3 files be suitable? Thanks guys. Feb 15, 1, 20, Wow thanks!
I'm pretty interested in that M-CR model. What speakers would you recommend pairing with this unit with? I already have a Kef PSW Can you get speakers to work with this sub and the Marantz? Marantz PM problem running my speakers. Thread starter lovemusic Start date Dec 29, Sidebar Sidebar. Forums Audio Hi-Fi. JavaScript is disabled. For a better experience, please enable JavaScript in your browser before proceeding.
Previous Next. Dec 29, 5 0 0. Hi everyone, I'm new here, thanks in advance for any help you can offer. In brief, my Hubby and I, are both bonkers about music and between us we've had that much hifi stuff we cannot remember all of it lol.
Yesterday we decided we would buy a brand new Marantz PM amp and the matching CD cd player to upgrade from the Yamaha amp and matching cd player we were using in our lounge. Prior to these purchases we usually run vintage stuff. We currently have various amps and hifi stuff along with speakers etc, we just wanted to get a bit more clarity, so decided on the Marantz for that room.
Sounded great however, when we tried to listen to the system at around the am position on the volume control, the amp kept going in to mute mode, turning the volume control down to zero and then resetting to play after several sections but with the volume at zero We understand that the Marantz has a protection system on it, but surely it cannot be that sensitive to the 4ohm speakers we have can it?
Wasn't really loud at that volume, but if we put on the loudness or a bit more bass it knocked out sooner. There's nothing wrong with our speakers, they've been used on various amps, large and small without any problems. The speaker wire is new however it is just speaker wire, nothing fancy.
Although, we've never had a problem before with using that type of wire on any of our gear. We talked to the Hifi store and they suggested a bigger amp, we were refunded for the two Marantz items and we are back to square one. Not really fancying anymore Marantz gear if this could happen again.
OK, old stuff that isn't high value but is OK. Thanks for any help you can offer. Apr 22, 79 0 0.
